Professor David Ford, OBE, is the Emeritus Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge. Born and raised in Dublin as member of the Church of Ireland, he read Classics at TCD before going on to study theology at Cambridge. For twenty years he worked on a comprehensive commentary on the Gospel of John, published in 2021; last year, he published a more accessible “companion for Lent, Holy Week and beyond” entitled, “Meeting God in John” which will form the basis of our Lent studies in Templebreedy. The sessions will take place on Monday evenings at The Rectory 7.30 – 9.00 p.m. beginning on Monday 23 February. Copies of the book are available at €10.

Lenten Charity Our Lenten Charity this year will be Hygiene Hub. This is an Irish Charity seeking to meet need in Ireland amongst some of our most vulnerable citizens. https://www.hygienehub.ie/about  Julie Daunt, Owen’s daughter, is a local representative for the charity.  During Lent and Easter, we will collect items that can passed on to the charity via Julie. She writes, “Hygiene Hub in Cork is a community initiative that collects and distributes hygiene products to local Community Partners, who in turn provide them free of charge to those in need. Hygiene Hub Cork is part of a grassroots network of volunteers tackling hygiene poverty across Ireland. We believe hygiene is a right, not a luxury, and we work to support people in crisis by providing essential items such as personal care products, baby supplies, and laundry essentials through trusted community organisations.” There will boxes in Crosshaven  and Nohoval to collect donations between now and Pentecost.
